TL;DR

  • Eight of Datadog’s 443 live adverts are fully remote in Europe. That is under 2%.
  • 33 of its 37 departments have no European remote role at all. If you are in finance, HR, marketing, design or support, there is nothing here.
  • Five of the eight want you travelling between 20% and 70% of the time. “Remote” means no assigned desk, not working from home.
  • Seven of the eight adverts tell you, in the body, that Datadog “operates as a hybrid workplace” – on a page headed Remote.

Datadog is a monitoring and security company with offices in New York, Paris, Boston, Dublin, Madrid, London, Lisbon, Amsterdam and a dozen more cities. It does not call itself remote-first – the phrase appears zero times across all 443 of its live adverts – and its careers site is unusually direct about what it is instead:

“We operate as a hybrid workplace with a few remote opportunities depending on your team and role.”

That is an honest description, and it makes Datadog a textbook entry for the Remote Work Europe open-to-remote hub. The question is who those few opportunities are actually for.

Figures are from Datadog’s own job board on 7 September 2026.

How many Datadog roles are genuinely remote in Europe?

Eight. Out of 443 live adverts.

Fifty-six adverts carry “Remote” somewhere in the location tag, and fifteen offer at least one European remote location. But only eight are fully remote with no office city attached – the rest let you work remotely or commute to a named office, which is a different offer.

Under 2% of the board. It is worth knowing that number before you invest an evening.

Here they are in full:

Which departments hire remotely, and which never do

Four departments out of 37. That is the finding.

Every corporate function is office-attached. People, finance, legal, marketing, design, recruiting, sales strategy, deal desk – none of them has a single European remote opening.

That is a cleaner split than we found at Monzo, where remote eligibility varies by department but reaches director level in several. At Datadog the remote route exists in four places and nowhere else.

Read the travel line before anything else

This is the detail most likely to change your mind, and it sits well down the adverts.

  • Key Accounts Executive – EMEA: “Able to travel via auto, train or air up to 70% of the time
  • Senior Sales Engineer – Majors (France, and UK/Nordics/Netherlands): “up to 45% of the time”, plus “Able to sit up to 4 hours, traveling to and from client sites”
  • Principal Partner Manager (UKI Security): “Willing to travel 30–40% of the time across the EMEA region
  • Senior Partner Manager – Channels (UKI): “20-30% of the time
  • Strategic Account Executive (DACH): “regular travel to client sites, within your area and other regions”

At Datadog, on the commercial side, remote means you have no assigned office rather than that you work from home. If what you want is a desk in your own house, the two Dev Eng roles – Security Agent and REDAPL Graph Engine – are the only ones on the board that state no travel requirement at all.

The adverts contradict themselves

Three things to know before you trust a location tag here.

The hybrid paragraph is inside the remote adverts. This boilerplate appears in 377 of 443 adverts, including seven of the eight fully remote European ones:

“At Datadog, we place value in our office culture – the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.”

So you read a header saying “France, Remote” and a body telling you the company operates as a hybrid workplace. Both are on the same page.

One role is advertised twice, in two incompatible places. Staff Software Engineer – Security Agent appears once tagged Portugal, Remote – and Portugal appears nowhere in that advert’s own office configuration. A duplicate advert for the same job carries the identical configuration but is tagged France, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Spain. Same role, two location tags that do not agree.

And #LI-hybrid is the default LinkedIn tag on 265 adverts, including several tagged remote. That is a feed setting rather than a statement about the job, but it is what a jobseeker sees on LinkedIn.

The rule, as everywhere in this category: the advert body is the disclosure, the tag is configuration.

Everything is senior, and nothing says anything about visas

All fifteen European remote adverts are individual-contributor roles, full time, with stated experience floors of three to six years or more. There are no graduate, apprentice or first-role remote openings in Europe. Both of Datadog’s internships are New York and Boston, in person – “Join an in-person intern cohort”.

On right to work, Datadog discloses nothing. Across all 443 adverts, the words “visa”, “work permit”, “right to work”, “sponsorship for employment” and “eligible to work” appear zero times each. That is an absence of any statement rather than a refusal – but since every advert names specific countries of employment, the practical test is whether you can already work in one of them.

Thirteen countries appear across the European remote adverts: Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Austria and Poland. There is no “anywhere in Europe” advert. Belgium, Norway, Finland, Greece, Czechia and Romania do not appear at all.

Only one of the fifteen states a language requirement – “Professional English language skills required; additional European language skills are a plus”. The France, DACH and Nordics territory roles state none, which is a gap worth raising at interview rather than assuming either way.

No salary is published for any European role.

Frequently asked questions

Which teams can I join remotely? Sales Engineering, Dev Eng, Channels & Alliances and Enterprise Sales. The other 33 departments have no European remote roles.
