TL;DR
- All 51 of Affirm’s European adverts are remote. Only two of its 204 live adverts anywhere are office-based, and both are the same IT support job in New York and Toronto.
- 43 of the 51 European roles are software engineering. If you do anything else, Europe gets one or two openings at a time.
- Spain and Poland carry almost the whole European headcount: 20 and 21 adverts against nine in the UK.
- Visa sponsorship is offered on 19 of the 20 Spanish adverts, in writing. Poland and the UK say nothing either way, and US and Canadian adverts refuse it outright.
Affirm had 204 live adverts on its Greenhouse board on 7 September 2026. Exactly two of them were tied to an office. Both were the same role, IT Support Administrator I, posted once in New York and once in Toronto, and the Toronto version states the reason plainly in its responsibilities: “Requirement to be in office supporting 5 days a week”.
Everything else, all 202 of them, carries a location tag that begins with the word Remote.
That is a stronger position than most companies claiming the label. The constraint at Affirm is somewhere else entirely, and it is worth understanding before you spend an evening on an application.
What does Affirm say about remote work?
The same paragraph appears in all 204 adverts, word for word:
Affirm is proud to be a remote-first company! The majority of our roles are remote and you can work almost anywhere within the country of employment. Affirmers in proximal roles have the flexibility to work remotely, but will occasionally be required to work out of their assigned Affirm office. A limited number of roles remain office-based due to the nature of their job responsibilities.
The careers page puts the same idea more casually: “If your role is remote, you can set up shop anywhere in your home country.”
Note the third category. “Proximal” roles are remote with occasional office attendance. The word appears in every advert as part of the boilerplate, but no European advert identifies itself as proximal.

For scale, the rest of the board runs to 88 in the US, 62 in Canada, one in Australia and the two office-based IT roles.
Spain and Poland are where a large part of Affirm’s engineering organisation sits. One department, Financial Platforms – Engineering, has 30 open roles and 26 of them are in Europe. That is a European engineering function with its own centre of gravity, not a sprinkling of remote hires.
Which teams actually hire in Europe?
This is the real gate, and it is worth being blunt about it. Of the 51 European adverts, 43 carry a software engineering title. The other eight are:

- Analyst II, Full Stack (Revenue Analytics) – Poland
- Analytics Engineer II (Accounting) – Poland
- Analytics Lead, Full Stack – UK
- Compliance Manager – UK
- Director, Key Accounts Sales – UK
- Small Business Account Executive I – UK
- Senior Manager, Technical Recruiting – Poland, Spain or UK
Meanwhile, entire departments hire only in North America. Product Management has eight open roles and none in Europe. Information Security has eight, none in Europe. Bank Strategy, Internal Audit and Ops Excellence have six each, none in Europe. Client Success has five, Program Management four, Brand & Communications three, User Experience three, Product Marketing three. All North American.
The honest summary for a European reader: if you write backend, fullstack, mobile or infrastructure code, Affirm is one of the more open large employers on the continent, with bands from Software Engineer I through Staff and Manager. If you work in product, design, marketing, security or operations, the European door opens for a single advert at a time. Can I work from anywhere in Europe?
No. The rule is one country, and it is the country of employment. “You can work almost anywhere within the country of employment” is the boilerplate, and the Spanish adverts reinforce it: “we do require that someone is based in Spain for the role.”
There is one exception on the current board. Senior Manager, Technical Recruiting is tagged to Remote Poland, Remote Spain and Remote UK, so that single advert accepts candidates in any of the three.
If you live in Portugal, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands or anywhere else in Europe, none of the 51 roles is open to you at your current address.
Does Affirm sponsor visas?
In Spain, yes, and it says so. Nineteen of the 20 Spanish adverts carry this line:
We are able to offer visa sponsorship for this role, but do require that someone is based in Spain for the role.
That is one of the clearer sponsorship statements on any public job board, and it sits alongside a published salary band.
Poland and the UK say nothing. There is no offer and no refusal on any of those adverts, which means it has to be raised in conversation. North American adverts go the other way and state a refusal: “Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.”
Affirm is not silent on immigration as a company. It is specific, and Spain is where it has decided to be generous. What does Affirm pay in Europe?
Bands are published in local currency on the adverts themselves.

These are employment contracts, not contractor arrangements. European adverts list flexible spending wallets for tech, food and lifestyle, wellness days off, learning and development programmes, parental benefits and employee resource groups.
Spanish and Polish adverts add a line that appears on 26 adverts in total: “This role is eligible for creative tax benefits, subject to applicable law and company policy”. Affirm does not say what regime it means, and neither will we. Ask.
Do European roles need US overlap?
Some do, some are explicitly built not to. Nine adverts carry a version of this line:
We’re a full-stack team located entirely in Europe within the same time zone, but culturally rooted in Silicon Valley.
Others describe small European teams directly: “We are a team of six engineers based across Spain and Poland.” A handful of other roles do add US overlap expectations, so the timezone question is per-team rather than company-wide.
