Fair and Transparent Recruitment: Remote Work Europe Policy for AI Training Roles

The rise of AI technology has created a growing demand for individuals to help train large language models (LLMs). This field, while exciting, has also brought unique challenges for our community. To ensure that our group remains a fair and respectful space for all, weโ€™ve established clear guidelines for posting recruitment opportunities, particularly for roles involving AI training.

Whether youโ€™re an employer or a recruiter looking to engage with our talented members, these are the standards we expect you to meet.

Transparency on Rates of Pay

Here are the rules from ALL our Facebook groups, that you might want to recruit in (check rule 6)

1. it must be open to [country] residents

2. it must be able to be performed FULLY remotely

3. you must indicate contract status (self-employed, employment, etc)

4. pay (or at least a range) MUST be indicated, and whether this is salary/fee or includes commissions

5. in almost all cases, we'll expect to see a link to the vacancy ad, on a business website. If you have real work to offer, simply share all the facts, and thank you for offering remote work in [country]

Pretty clear, right?

We have these rules for good reason, and one of the most common frustrations in the remote job-seeking process is the lack of upfront pay transparency. To uphold fairness and save everyone time, we require all AI training roles shared in our groups to disclose rates of pay upfront, just like any other role

โ€ข Include the hourly rate or total project payment in your post.

โ€ข Specify whether the rate meets or exceeds the minimum wage in the target market for roles requiring specific regional accents or linguistic skills.

For instance, if your role seeks trainers with native European accents, you must adhere to minimum wage laws in those countries. For example:

โ€ข The minimum wage in Germany is โ‚ฌ12.41 per hour.

โ€ข In France, itโ€™s approximately โ‚ฌ11.52 per hour.

Failure to meet these thresholds will result in removal of your post. If you cannot afford to meet the required minimums, we encourage you to recruit in countries that align with your budget - we totally understand that costs of living vary around the world, and what might be a perfectly acceptable rate to pay in a less developed market sounds okay to you. But our members live in European countries with the living costs associated with that, and many of those countries have legally mandated minimum rates as well.

    Clear Contractual Terms

    We also need your post, or the ad to which it directly links, to be completely clear on all the details an applicant might need to make an informed decision about whether or not to apply. Vague terms can leave workers vulnerable, and gig based work can be worse than anything else.. To foster trust, you must also include:

    Duration of the role (e.g., short-term project or ongoing work).

    Type of engagement (e.g., freelance, part-time, or full-time).

    Key expectations for trainers (e.g., hours of availability, software/tools required, or specific deliverables).

    Posts missing this critical information wonโ€™t be approved.

    GDPR Compliance for Privacy Protection

    Protecting our membersโ€™ personal information is non-negotiable. As AI roles often require applicants to submit recordings, personal details, or other sensitive data, we require evidence of GDPR-compliant privacy practices before approving posts.

    You are legally required to provide your privacy policyif you are collecting data about European residents, and we donโ€™t expect to have to dig around for it on your site - it must be clearly visible. We wonโ€™t accept any posts which go straight to a data capture form with no indication of how that information will be used.


    Recruiters should:

    โ€ข Provide a link to your organisationโ€™s privacy policy in the post.

    โ€ข Confirm that any data collected is handled in accordance with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) standards.

    โ€ข Avoid asking members to share information directly via unregulated channels such as group chats or direct messages.


    If your organisation lacks a GDPR-compliant privacy policy, we will not approve your post.


    Addressing Disingenuous Marketing

    A final point we have to address: Many of these low-paid, repetitive roles are marketed as stepping stones to an exciting career in AI.

    In reality, such jobs rarely provide the skills or experience needed for meaningful advancement in the field. Instead of accepting these opportunities, jobseekers interested in building a genuine career in AI should explore formal education, certifications, or entry-level technical roles that focus on developing practical programming, data science, or machine learning skills. A strong foundation in AI concepts is essential. Start by familiarising yourself with key topics like machine learning (ML), deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), and computer vision.

    For most of us, learning how to USE AI effectively in our daily work will be the competitive edge we seek, and for that I strongly recommend learning everything you can about it, as it relates to your professional field.

    But you are never going to learn anything of value to your career in this industry by captioning images or reading text into a mic.

    Streamlining Approvals

    In order to maintain the quality of recruitment posts in our newsletter and Facebook groups, our team vet every post individually. But we do not have the resources, nor is it reasonable to expect, that we will spend hours researching company backgrounds or checking out your post, to see it if it might somehow be legit after all. This means recruiters must take the initiative to demonstrate compliance by including all required information in their posts, clearly and obviously.

    Itโ€™s not rocket science - and doesnโ€™t require non-human levels of intelligenceโ€ฆ

    These guidelines are designed to protect the integrity of our groups and ensure that opportunities benefit both recruiters and members. Fair pay, clear terms, and responsible data handling are the baseline standards we demand for any recruitment activity shared here.
