Estonia named best European country for digital nomads in 2026 ranking

Estonia has been named the best European country for digital nomads in 2026 in a 40-country index compiled by LEI Register, reported by Euronews and Forbes. The ranking scored countries across 19 indicators including rent, grocery costs, internet speed, coworking availability, safety, English proficiency and visa terms. Iceland took second place and Portugal third, with Montenegro fourth – noted for the cheapest digital nomad visa fee in the ranking (€26) and the longest permit duration (730 days) – and Croatia fifth. Spain also made the top ten.

It was a double win for Estonia: in the same week, the country topped the Rumavi Global Relocation Index covering 192 countries. The nomad ranking highlighted Estonia’s affordability relative to Western Europe (average one-bedroom city-centre rent around €573 per month), its safety record and its digital infrastructure.
