Google's AI search performance reports and opt-out control reach every website worldwide
Google confirmed on 31 August 2026 that two Search Console features have completed their global rollout: a generative AI performance report and a Search generative AI control. The report shows impressions by page, country, device and date across AI Overviews, AI Mode and Discover’s AI features — with no click data and no query data. The control is a property-level toggle that removes a site from those AI surfaces entirely.
Why this matters for publishers. For the first time there is site-level evidence of which pages AI answers are actually drawing on, rather than inference from traffic patterns. Anyone publishing guides that get summarised into AI answers can now see the scale of it. The absence of click and query data is the significant limitation: you learn that AI surfaces are showing your pages, but not what people asked or whether anyone came through.
The opt-out is all or nothing at property level. Switching it on removes the site from AI Overviews and AI Mode completely, forfeiting the impressions and any traffic they generate. Google says it is not a ranking signal elsewhere in Search, and it is separate from the Google-Extended control that governs AI training. Page-level control is not required until March 2027 under the UK Competition and Markets Authority order.
What to watch. March 2027, when page-level control arrives and the decision stops being binary. Until then the toggle is a single choice for an entire site, which is a poor fit for publishers whose pages differ in how much they depend on search traffic.
