Destination Spain: Understanding Your Visa Options in 2024

Unless you hold an EU passport, it’s highly likely that you will need a visa to come and live in Spain.

Spain offers a range of options, including visas linked to studying, employment, business, and investment. While the “Golden Visa” pathway of residency through purchasing a personal home is now effectively closed, there are many other ways to reach your destination, to live legally in Spain, They all have different terms and conditions associated with them, and which you should apply for depends on a number of different factors, for example:

  • Do you need to work and earn a living?

  • Do you need to be in Spain to do your work?

  • Do you have family or ancestral ties to Spain?

  • Do you business/investment intentions in Spain?

  • Do you intend to settle in Spain as a permanent resident or even acquire citizenship?

Some people will potentially be eligible for more than one visa pathway, and that’s why you need clarity about your long-term intentions for residency and also tax planning.
