Italy's Digital Nomad Visa goes live – consulates accepting applications from March 18

After two years of delays, Italy’s Interior Ministry has published detailed operational rules for its Digital Nomad Visa. Consulates began accepting applications from 18 March 2026 with no numerical quota. The minimum income threshold is EUR 28,000 per year – among the lowest in Western Europe.

Spouses and dependent children receive automatic co-terminous residence permits with access to Italy’s SSN health service. Combined with Italy’s impatriate tax regime (50% income tax reduction for five years), this makes Italy a seriously competitive option for digital nomads considering Southern Europe.
