Italy clarifies Digital Nomad Visa rules with new March 2026 guidance

Italy has published new guidance clarifying the Digital Nomad Visa framework for 2026. The income threshold is confirmed at EUR 28,000 per year. DNV holders are eligible for the Regime Forfettario – a flat 5% tax rate for the first five years – making Italy one of the most tax-friendly DNV destinations in Europe. Family reunification rights are explicitly included.

A proposed “Digital Nomad Tax Bonus” is under discussion as part of the budget law, which could further sweeten the deal. Details remain under legislative consideration, but the direction of travel is clear – Italy is actively competing for remote workers.

Combined with the country’s existing appeal – affordable living outside the major cities, strong digital infrastructure in the north, and an improving consular application process – the updated guidance positions Italy as a serious contender alongside Portugal, Spain, and Greece for remote workers considering a European base.
