Office.eu launches as Europe's sovereign alternative to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace
Office.eu officially launched on March 4 in The Hague as a fully European-owned productivity platform built on Nextcloud Hub. The suite includes documents, spreadsheets, presentations, file storage, email, calendars, and video meetings – all stored exclusively in European data centres, outside the reach of US law and government requests.
The platform is rolling out in phases by invitation, with broad availability planned for Q2 2026. Pricing will be comparable to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, with a focus on individuals and SMEs. Migration tools support IMAP for email and CalDAV for calendars, making it straightforward to switch from existing providers.
For remote workers and freelancers handling EU client data, the data sovereignty angle is significant. With all infrastructure subject exclusively to European law, Office.eu removes a compliance grey area that many distributed teams face when using US-headquartered platforms. Whether it gains meaningful traction against entrenched incumbents remains to be seen, but the GDPR and Schrems II compliance story is compelling.
