Spain tightens documentation requirements for autonomo registration

The Social Security Ministry confirmed new documentation requirements for self-employed registrations from Q2 2026. Non-EU remote workers registering as autonomos will need to provide additional proof of primary work activity.

This adds another layer to an already complex registration process and underscores the importance of working with a specialist gestor or accountant when setting up as autonomo in Spain.
